Ontario Rental Housing crisis – The blame game

0

In a stunning acknowledgment of the huge hearing backlog impacting Ontarians at the Landlords and Tenants Board (LTB),  the body tasked to adjudicate rental disputes in Ontario blames the provincial government for “lack of support “

In a written statement to the CBC news, the LTB “blames the Ontario government’s temporary moratorium pausing eviction hearings from March to August 2020 for its longer-than-average wait times and backlog” adding that “ It’s working to modernize operations and hire more staff to help go through the backlog, a spokesperson wrote.”

The LTB also refer all the questions regarding the backlog issues – who is responsible, will landlords be compensated – plaguing the “mess” to the Ontario Ministry of Housing which the LTB reports to.

According to the CBC, “The Housing ministry also didn’t answer those questions directly, but said it’s committed to the well-being of Ontarians, continuing its work on homeless prevention, and “making sure tenants and landlords are treated fairly.

The whole article – describing the kafkaesque ordeal of a Small landlord – supported by Solo Landlords Inc, the non profit organization dedicated to support small housing providers in Ontario – made homeless due to the delays to get a hearing is on the CBC website.
