Peaceful Solo landlords protest at Queen’s Park –

On the last week of the legislature session, hundreds of SOLO landlords gathered at Queen’s Park to express peacefully their displeasure to the current situation with respect to small housing providers rights being impeded by the Residential Tenant Act.

Around 11 am, at the south lawn, several landlords made speeches to explain the difficult situation the Ontario government is placing small housing providers in unbearable situation.

The main ask from solo landlords is to have a fair and efficient dispute resolution mechanism when it comes to landlord and tenant issues. For instance, signs were visible asking not to conduct a hearing for non payment of rent which makes senses since there is nothing to discuss and the majority of the applications are for non payment of rent.

“My Property! My Rights!” was also a rallying cry from SOLO landlords due to the fact that they feel deprived to the rights of their property they struggle to acquire.

Several passerby and few politicians showed sympathy and understanding as the protesters marched through Queen’s Park, University avenue and north lawn. Some even joined.

At the end of the protest many said they will not relent until the government “listen to us” as “we are also taxpayers.”
