Sad news. Steven Smith a landlord’s paralegal passed away

It is with deep sadness to let you know that Steven Smith, Paralegal passed away recently.

Steven was the Paralegal, who represented many many distraught landlords when Solo first began in the Spring of 2020. His knowledge base was extensive. If you ever had the privilege of hearing him litigate a hearing you would learn from one of the best. He was a Rock Star.

Due to the situations landlords were experiencing, we fondly referred to him as the G.O.A.T. We have many landlords who he represented whom he never billed for his services. Professional tenants including professional non-paying lawyers hated him. I remember one quote “I chew people like you up for breakfast” The stories were endless. He was a warrior for justice and only represented landlords.

Steven was passionate about cooking, his brother and the East Coast. He loved seafood. Rest in Peace Steven. If you knew Steven please post a memory.

Steven left indelible impression to so many in the industry

Here are the words from paralegal Samantha Glass on Facebook

Steven was one of my mentors, I remember being a student and walking into the Board in Toronto and meeting him. He happened to be on the other side of a case against my placement host. His style was not one I had ever seen before, as I had worked on matters prior to paralegal licensing.

Steven had offered to assist me, to mentor me and teach me how to be fierce litigator. Every time I met with him, or interacted with him at the board, he would give me a pep talk. He really assisted me in leveling up my advocacy. He was an advocate!! He was a teacher, he loved his cats, and was just all out a great person. I will miss him greatly.

The paralegal profession will also miss him greatly!”
