SOLO Representatives Meet with Landlord and Tenant Board Leadership to Strengthen Collaboration

Toronto, ON – November 18, 2025 — Representatives of the Small Ownership Landlords of Ontario (SOLO), accompanied by selected professionals and volunteers, met virtually with senior leadership of the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) to renew constructive dialogue and explore opportunities for continued system improvements.

The meeting aimed to re-establish a collaborative working relationship between Ontario’s largest organization representing small housing providers and the provincial tribunal responsible for adjudicating landlord–tenant disputes.

SOLO opened the discussion by acknowledging the significant strides the LTB has made in reducing hearing delays.

Harry Gousopoulos, Executive Director of Tribunals Ontario, emphasized that the LTB remains the busiest and highest-priority tribunal within the organization. He highlighted progress made in reducing the backlog, noting that more than 100,000 cases were adjudicated over the past year—an historic milestone. He further reported that active cases have declined from a peak of 55,000 to 36,000, with the vast majority of orders now issued within 30 days.

SOLO co-founder Boubah Bah encouraged the LTB to prioritize non-payment-of-rent matters and consider mechanisms to fast-track uncontested applications. He stressed the need for measures that deter “bad actors,” whether landlords or tenants, who exploit procedural gaps.

Myra Gamsa, Director of Operations at Tribunals Ontario, confirmed that the organization remains open to any legally feasible initiatives that increase efficiency and reduce burdens on stakeholders.

Bah also expressed housing providers’ hope that the passage of Bill 60 will support a more balanced and transparent framework that benefits both responsible tenants and landlords.

The one-hour consultation concluded with a mutual commitment to continue meeting and exchanging updates, recommendations, and progress reports.
