Tribunal Watch Ontario: “The Landlords and Tenant Board’s wait times increased by tenfold”

Tribunal Watch Ontario has produced a damning report with regard of the Landlords and Tenants Board (LTB) performance, the provincial body in charge of resolve dispute between landlords and tenants.

In an interview on the subject by the CBC, Boubah Bah Solo’s chair said

“It takes a minimum five months to get a hearing, after which you have to wait up to 60 days to get the order, then another two months on the sheriff to enforce the order.

“The government has to realize the people who are the solution for affordable housing are small landlords,” Bah said.

“[Small landlords] do have property to rent but they are afraid. So, the solution is to incentivise them by reducing the wait time at the Landlord and Tenant Board.”

The vast majority of the applications are for non-payment, Bah said, so there is “no reason why there should be a full hearing for a non-payment… this should be an expedited process.

The full interview and the video are both on the CBC website
