No one in this world can live for free… or expect their Landlords to cover for them when they are short.

When the non-paying tenant freeloaded and stole housing that didn’t belong to him, it was more than the abused and overwhelmed property owner could bear. He took his life because the non-paying tenant would NOT leave a home that didn’t belong to him and NO one helped the owner get his own home back! That home had been in his family for years, he could not sell it in the condition the poor tenant had it in, nor did he want to. His surviving family is still dealing with this atrocity and thief in their family home!

* Are those who complained about landlords, currently taking in someone who doesn’t pay their obligations/ bills at their places?

Stop and think how it would affect everything.

It is NOT an expectation for anyone else to pay for a non paying tenant except maybe Ontario Works, if they qualify.

Just like grocery stores don’t discount the price on food when people can’t afford it. Social services help in that instance. Not landlords. Some of the comments just have NO idea! To those few misguided tenants not willing to pay for their services used:

When you are ready to provide your assets and your life savings to someone you trust who steals them, breaks their agreement and contract.. only THEN will you truly understand. And the Ontario government has failed us all…Housing is drying up.. LTB is a mess, Adjudicators are disorganized, seldom provide justice or fairness on either side. Any tenant breaking their legally binding contract should be removed from the property for breaking the law and stealing services. Just like at a hotel. Because they are stealing.

If you don’t pay your Rogers/Bell bill, do you continue to have internet/phone?

Those who think Rental fees are unjustified, remember when a tenant doesn’t obey his legal obligation, the owner still has to pay in full for the tenants’ property use. But LL isn’t using it!

*Anyone who wants free rent- it’s NOT the property owners job to support you! Someone else can.

Call social services and apply for a government program and support to pay your bills. We all have bills. So pay yours. Live in Government or geared to income housing if you need cheap rent. Never expect others to support you and certainly not your Landlord. It’s So wrong! Someone posted about eviction and suicide, which is a Government & social services issue, and not even relevant to this.

Repeat:

*You can NOT expect ANY private citizen property owner to house any tenant for free. Do you give your money away?

If this mindset continues, not too many Property Providers will be available to house tenants if this attitude and risk of exploitation continues.

*Where will tenants live if the risk of renting out property becomes a losing business? Less want to provide housing.

Then it will all be Government housing or homelessness. Lean on your Government. There’s already less available places for rent due to people exploiting their landlords that trusted them. This crime was committed and the tenant threatened the housing provider to the point the housing provider suffered severe hardship with no support. What if this was your relative? Who of you can afford to support another family or person who threatens your family? Where is your compassion?

Which tenant here will offer their home up for free to another? (but keep paying themselves). When housing Providers see this- it could COST money instead of providing income, there is no incentive to provide housing at all. This tenant should be charged with manslaughter, harassment, breach of contract and theft. People may rally for this. If tenants need financial support, that’s what our GOVERNMENT housing and support is for. It’s up to all of us to support ourselves as adults or apply for Government help. Free utilities, free housing is something you apply to the Government for.

Don’t ever blame a housing provider/LL/ owner of the property for not being willing to take on a tenants problems or give away money or their property for free.

S.A.
