For the second year in a row, Small Ownership Landlords Ontario Inc. (SOLO) hosted a luncheon with all the MPPs at Queen’s Park on Thursday, November 6th, 2025.
Although it fell on the same day as the Fall Economic Statement, many Members of the Provincial Parliament and staff attended to hear SOLO’s proposals on how to address the systemic issues within the residential housing system in Ontario.During the event, SOLO volunteers engaged all the stakeholders and made the point that Bill 60 is a step in the right direction; however, more needs to be done to address the delays that are leading to the abuse of the system by bad actors on both sides. The agreement was something that needed to be done to address the elephant in the room — non-payment of rent.
Three of the four parties took a strong approach and all recognized that the current system of landlord-tenant dispute adjudication has room for improvement.
Conservative MPP Billy Pang of Markham Stouffville said that his government is “committed to act on it and has already poured additional funding to “remove the bad actors” and to make it fair for both sides.”
Liberal MPP Rob Cerjanec of Ajax also concurred that “changes are needed and a reform should be implemented to bring back a fair reasonable wait time at the LTB for both housing providers and tenants.”
NDP MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam said “the current system is not working, urging the government to do better, and the Ontario NDP party will advocate for a functional system that is credible, just, and upholds Ontarians’ right to access to justice.”
Green party Deputy Leader Aislinn Clancy MPP for Kitchener Centre also came to confirm what she said at our Zoom meeting that she supports reform that is fair to both sides and encourages dialogue and protection.
SOLO will follow-up with all MPPs on their commitments, and will push for rebalancing the Residential Tenancy Act and the Landlords and Tenants Board on behalf of small landlords–our members.
SOLO sincerely thanks all the volunteers who tirelessly worked to make this event a success. We also thank those who made a financial contribution to offset the costs and enable us to continue our work. Your generosity allows SOLO to keep advocating for fair and balanced housing policies and providing support to our members.
