Liana Hickey is currently homeless and recovering from being brutally assaulted by her tenant. Hickey has a property in Guelph that is being held hostage from her.

The tenant denied Hickey entry to the property for months. On September 3rd, he granted her access to the property because she posted a notice on the door stating she was coming in. The moment Hickey entered the property she was attacked by the tenant. She was put in a headlock and beaten so badly, she had to go to the hospital. She is still recovering from the assault, Hickey has free fluid in her chest as a result of the assault.

The tenant was charged with obstruction of entry and assault. This tenant is still living in Hickey’s property while she and her husband are living in a camper with no running water. This tenant has not paid rent consistently since April 2020, the only time rent is paid is when Hickey gets a court order from the Landlord Tenant Board (LTB). As of September 2021, Hickey is owed 10 thousand dollars in rent.

Hickey has been trying to get this tenant out of the property since he moved in, “He broke the lease right away” said Hickey. This tenant is illegally subletting rooms, selling Hickey’s belongings and growing marijuana on the property.

Hickey has an upcoming hearing with the LTB to try and get this dangerous tenant evicted. However, with the rate the LTB is moving and the current laws in place that protect tenants and villainize landlords Hickey said,  “I know I am gonna be freezing cold living in a camper past Christmas.”
