Tomorrow, Wednesday November 27th, 2024 from 7:30 to 8:15 am at the Dining room in the Queen’s Park Legislative Building, many of the 124 Members of Ontario Provincial Parliament will be the guests of Small Ownership Landlords Ontario Inc., the advocacy group representing small scale housing providers in Ontario.
With the help of dedicated volunteers and Board members, Solo is planning to address the issue of non-payment of rent due to scheduling delays at the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) Tribunal affecting both decent landlords and tenants alike. An invitation has been extended to all 124 MPPs and SOLO is very pleased with the response and enthusiasm from our elected representatives.
Currently, wait times for a hearing take an average of six months from the date of application, and SOLO believes that more can be done to reduce the wait times to a maximum of six weeks or less by streamlining the non-payment of rent to discourage bad actors and send a positive signal to small scale housing providers, who are the bedrock of affordable housing.
During the informal session – a first in Ontario – The SOLO Board and volunteers will mingle with the MPPs of all parties and will educate them on the necessity to address the root causes of the housing crisis in Ontario: #FixTheLTB non-payment of rent delays.
This breakout session will be the first step towards giving MPPs a better understanding of small landlords’ needs and their role in the current housing crisis.
We’re helping housing providers fight back. If you are a landlord in need of help, we welcome you to join us for free. It’s time to get involved.
